i long for a social media w/o the numbers. i tried for a long time only scrolling twitter through a firefox extension to remove all those metrics from my own view, but this is a lie to myself, i can still sense the power structure without them.

the only way i can stand twitter these days is scrolling a few lists on tweetdeck. close friends and soon to be friends, with all retweets filtered out, is pleasent to me.

but it's really just coopting the infastructure, using the fact that *people i like post here habitually* to reorganize those posts in a way that i can view without ruining my sanity in the process. it does not redeem the platform, but it makes it livable to exist within to a degree

Thank you so much for this. Both brought me comfort in not being alone feeling these things, and also discomfort....reading it like i'm standing naked or exposed, embarrassed a bit. Both the feeling of comfort and discomfort most welcome though.

I agree too that I've met some incredible people on the site, but they're folks I already keep in touch with various other ways.

I don't know, i feel like in some ways it will take more effort to connect and have community without it, but absolutely worth the effort as those communities will be healthier and more able to thrive.

Very much looking forward to keeping in touch and getting your writings here. And just in general building movements and action instead of all the crap that toxic mess brought.

solidarity,
